College Bound: Exploring Beyond the City

On Wednesday, February 21st, The Armory College Prep program took an exciting trip to broaden students' college horizons! We took 27 of our eager students, along with 6 students from our neighbors, the Lang Youth Medical Program, beyond the familiar streets of NYC to explore the beautiful campuses of Villanova University and the University of Pennsylvania.

For some of our students, this trip was their first time experiencing a college campus outside of New York City. They were impressed by the unique atmosphere of each university. They were shocked to learn that The University of Pennsylvania is home to the first business school in the United States, the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

At Villanova, they learned about the school's founding by the Order of Saint Augustine in 1842, and its nickname, the Wildcats! They were surprised to learn that the commute from NYC is just over an hour by train, making it a convenient option for our students who are looking to stay close to home.

Both campuses offered student-led tours, providing our students with an insider's perspective on college life. They peeked into academic buildings, explored the libraries, and even got a glimpse of the delicious options offered in the cafeterias. This trip was a valuable experience, sparking curiosity and igniting the college dreams of our students!
